The Year I Flew Away

Gabrielle has moved from her home in Haiti to her uncle's place in Brooklyn, while her parents wait for the paperwork to immigrate. She doesn’t know much English, and a mean girl bullies her at school. Then a red door appears in her building’s lobby at midnight – behind it, a witch offers to grant her wish of fitting in—for a small price.
