Students entering grade 5 & 6 at BMS in fall 2023 should:
- Read at least one book from the Grade 5 & 6 summer reading list
- Do a response piece about that book. Your ELA teacher will have directions about turning it in in early September. It will count toward your T1 grade.
- Read a graphic novel of your own choice!
While these are minimum expectations, we definitely hope you will read much more all summer long!

The books on this list represent a range of genres, formats, topics, experiences, heritages, identities and situations. They are all on the Massachusetts Children's Book Awards list for 2023-24 for students in grades 4 through 6 (minus the graphic novels -- which students may enjoy for their graphic novel requirement). We encourage families to select, read and discuss books together.
